Emperors and electors, Romans and revolutionaries – many have found the ideal place for their eventful gatherings in Trier.

True greatness comes from within. Anyone who stands in front of the Porta Nigra, the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps, the Cathedral of St. Peter, the oldest bishop's church in Germany, or the Konstantinbasilika, the largest column-free hall of antiquity, notices this and cranes their head upwards. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Trier is flanked by sensational excavations, exciting exhibitions and a traditional wine and cultural landscape. Starting from the main market with its cozy, half-timbered living room atmosphere, all this size can be reached in a maximum of 20 minutes. And this close proximity to each other makes it even more impressive.

Local Moselle specialties

Hearty food and elegant Riesling enjoyment - in Trier these are not mutually exclusive. Trier offers its guests many options in the city centre, in the wine-growing suburb of Olewig or on the Moselle, from rustic terdich, a Trier speciality, to Moselle tapas and award-winning cuisine.

  • Apple wine Viez - Trier's national drink
  • Tartar, Fliten and Grumbeerschniecher
  • Hearty home cooking and refined gourmet delights

Everything in and on the river

Trier not only connects its origins with the Moselle, but also its relaxation oasis. A walk to the fishing village of Zurlauben, to the Moselle beach or to the Roman bridge leaves behind the hustle and bustle of a busy conference day and offers the perfect conclusion.

  • Retreat in Zurlauben - enjoyment directly on the Moselle
  • Cocktails on the Moselle beach (“Moselperle”) – open in summer
  • Boat trips on the Moselle

The Trier ladder to heaven

Admittedly - you have to have a lot of staying power if you want to climb the 604 steps of the Trierer Himmelsleiter (The Trier ladder to heaven) in the western district of Trier-Pallien. However, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over the city - directly at Trier's landmark, the Mariensäule.

  • 177 vertical meters with an average gradient of 30%
  • Visit to the St. Mark's Chapel and the Marian Column
  • Sporting challenge with wow effect

  • Animal and plant paradise
  • Walking paths and miniature golf course
